Geoff Dyer will be at the Hay Festival, UK, to talk about the Russian film director Andrei Tarkovsky’s masterpiece Stalker. Geoff will be showing clips from the film and reading from his recent book about it called Zona.

With the staged performance Gatz hitting the West End and a new film due for release shortly, writers, critics and theatre makers discuss the enduring appeal of the novel and the ways in which it has influenced their own work.

Geoff Dyer will be giving a reading free and open to the public at The Englert Theatre at 7pm on October 3rd, with a reception to follow. Dyer, who is teaching this semester in the Nonfiction Writing Program in the English Department at the University of Iowa is the winner of the 2012 National Book Critics Circle Award for his collection of essays, Otherwise Known as the Human Condition, as well as the winner of the Somerset Maugham Prize. He has written authoritatively and with great originality and insight about such disparate subjects as photography (The Ongoing Moment), jazz (But Beautiful), memory and forgetting (The Missing of the Somme), literary obsession (Out of Sheer Rage) and most recently, film (Zona).
